Separate spousal bedrooms on the rise
#11
A Multi-Layered Foam mattress is the answer. It doesn't cost several hundred like the one Lyndsay Wagner sells. It's easy to build: Buy one 6" in 8-10LB density; buy one 3" very soft layer for the top. Now when you lay down your body sinks into that first 3" and it conforms to your body; the next layer prevents sagging and backaches and is hard enough to give the right amount.
Now, when I roll over 20 times a night, my wife cannot even notice. It will cost you under $200 total. Go to a foam place; they have a bench to let you custom feel(lay on) the various pieces so that you can build it how you like it.
Conversely, when we go to a hotel, or are guests at someone's house, we are usually miserable because it's like being on a trampoline in comparison.

Wife and I have used separate bedrooms for several years now and sleep so much better due to snoring, shifting, one reads or watches TV later etc. This process is a marital aid. Don't know who said it is MAGIC to sleep fitfully through the night just to be in the same bed?

This would be a very sensible solution for MANY couples. A multi-layered foam mattress is NOT the answer if partners have different schedules (requiring lights being on at different times) or if one snores loudly.

National Association of Home Builders, builders and architects predicted that more than 60 percent of custom houses would have dual master bedrooms by 2015

Wouldn't a better explanation be that a lot of people have their elderly baby-boomer parents living with them, and want them to have a nice master bedroom?

Snoring can be dealt with by going to a sleep clinic. Most of the time a C-Pap machine is issued and works wonders once a person gets used to it. It also gives the snorer a better nights sleep. Snoring a lot of times can be accompanied by sleep apnea, which to the other partner can be scary.

My wife and I have separate bedrooms.
Her's is in Virginia and mine is in Karachi, Pakistan (temporarily, just for another 5 months).

If I snore my wife pinches my nose shut until I stop. She says I sputter and choke much like an engine running out of gas, but eventually I start breathing again.

Ha!

After reading the headline I wouldn't automatically assume that it meant each person was sleeping in their own master bedroom, but rather people wanted to have two master bedrooms in their home as a convenience for guests, or perhaps for shared/rental homes with multiple couples living together.

My sleep schedule is pretty much the same as my wife's work schedule, so basically whenever she is working I am sleeping. The opposite is also true for her. In this way we each get the whole bed (queen size) to ourself, save for the large mane coon cat who likes to get on my head and be "my buddy" while I am trying to sleep.
