OT: Boooo ….. nest gen1 & 2 losing support
#11
This reminds me I have an original Nest and sensors in the back of a closet.

Is there any use in installing them, or do they need to contact a now non-existent server for any functionality.

I don't think I'll invest in a newer model at any price.

I can understand not giving old kit new features, i.e. new features needing new kit, but why not let the old stuff live on, instead of putting adrift on a melting ice floe.

The email they sent lets you buy a new one for $150 (discounted from $270)... and my local electric company has a $100 rebate, so only out for $50 (per device, I've got 2).

Do you get the electric company rebate if you don't buy from them?
Yes, as long as I pay sales tax in my state.

I have a 2nd Gen Nest and got the email about it not being supported in October. I'll be switching to Ecobee and buying the latest model from Costco. It will be nice to finally have HomeKit compatibility.
