New Firewire flash drives coming?
#11
[quote Filliam H. Muffman]I could not find any comments by OWC Larry in the last month about the FireWire flash drives being faster than USB 2 drives. I understand that FireWire on Macs is faster than USB 2. If they are just coming out with a FireWire version so G5 and older Mac users can boot from it, great. If they are using a new faster type of flash memory that can take advantage of FireWire then they should say that.
Because he never did.
Larry's comment was that FW400 is faster than USB2 despite what the specs read (400 vs 480), he was speaking of ports, not flash drives.
FW400 is faster then USB2 no matter what machine, Mac or PC.
If you want a definitive rundown, barefeats is the place.

[quote tahoedrew][quote Lux Interior]Given the number of PCs with 6-pin FW ports (let alone FW 800 ports) I predict prohibitively high prices.
Actually, look at the photo closer. The FW400 version appears to have a 4-pin port on the back of the drive (6-pin on one side, 4-pin on the other).

I hope it ships with a power adapter then, because the two pins that are missing on a FW 4-Pin port are power.

I wanted one of these badly, then they fell off the radar:

TC is speaking of the "Flash Media", not the connection.

Did you get that backwards?
