Well, final b/u of the MDD's main drive running, spebt the last hour cleaning out the computer space. I'm plugging the iMac into place and forgetting about the side-by-side method of setting up a new mac. . .
FW target mode only sees on internal HD

God, what a frikkin' mess. Ran migration assistant from a backup of my "main" drive on an external USB drive.
It decided that my files (which were about 180 GB) would occupy over 300 GB on the new drive, and the sizes of the things to uncheck made no sense. I had to leave everything but the user folders behind. It dumped hundreds of files onto the desktop-- things I thought I deleted recently, or cleaned up into folders. Found one desktop pic nut notthe other. A few apps I use all the time are nowhere to be found (about 30 out of 40 dock items had question marks...)- A few have lost their registration info. Scanner is dead for whatever reason. I have never developed an understanding of why there's a library folder at the root level and then another in the user folder. I think if I did understand this, a lot of things would be easier. I've probably got about 3-4 additional hours to go to get all the things I need up and running again. |
