Who else's mortgage company calls to dun you BEFORE you are late?
#11
Indymac. Indymac. And Indymac. Got one call once, can't remember why (it may have been on the 13th or so of a late-ish month).
Never had a late mortgage payment in 6 years (jinx).. Pay by check, usually gets to them by the 10th or 12th.

I pay EVERYTHING by automatic withdrawal or automatic debit because I am on the road so much that it is pretty much the only way I know everything will get paid on time. I had to mail a check to the city for Cooper's dog license and it took me almost an hour to figure out where I had stashed my checkbook. I never use it!

Only once in many years of doing this have I had to fight to get $$ back when it was improperly withdrawn and of course, that was with AT&T.

I got a new company CC and wanted to wait a few months before I set up the automatic payment so I could be sure they weren't charging me a bunch of bogus fees etc. Yep, 4 months in, I forgot to make a payment. Was due on the 6th, on the 7th I got a call from a very nice lady telling me if I made a payment while we were on the phone, they'd waive the late fee.

Two more months and I'll put them on automatic- can't wait. Smile

[quote M A V I C][quote JoeH][quote MikeF]If it's due on the 1st but not late until the 15th, they can still ding your credit for not paying when due...
Actually, no they can't. Terms of a standard mortgage states payment is not late until after the 10th or 15th. They can not report it as overdue. Well, they can and then be sued for damages in court. The Fair Credit Reporting Act provides for triple damages as I recall.
Yep. It should not be reported to credit until it's 30 days past due.
True. It can't be reported late until you are actually late. The 14 days between the "due date" and "late date" is a grace period in which your payment is expressly not late.

I had to have my credit union send me a special book of deposit slips because I am now using more of those than are in the check book. So far this year, I've written 21 checks and made 12 manual deposits.

Man...what is it with ATT? I am going thru hell right now. I have bank drafts showing payment...but they never credit my account. Called last month and they said they would take care of it. This month...late charges and they show no payment for 2 months (even though I have had the bank fax them proof of automatic payment). Duh..It's like trying to explain physics to a 5 year old when you talk to them. I long for the Cingular days...which is saying A LOT.
