It appears they are using chromosonal standard for what gender means, and the article raises the possibility that she could have a chromosonal disorder (so could be XXX or XY female or XXY male, I don't know the full range of possibilities).

Physique aside, she has a very typical male bone structure. Broad shoulders, compact hips, no waist.
Not that bone structure is an indicator, just that when you have a very male bone structure, you look much more male. It can also help account for the reason she runs so fast.

although i wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of natural chromosomal analmoly going on. at first i thought the assumption behind the question was if this was a transgendered individual trying to cheat. in my admittedly limited experience, male-female transgendered folk are generally given away by their largish, male-ish hands. her hands seem in line with a female physique. |
