Are you the buyer or seller of this item? Is someone hitting you up for a refund?
what difference does it make? would your answer change depending on the situation?
Would you expect a refund?

i just did this. Purchased a powermac that wasn't good enough for what I needed. I'm going to just resell it .

FYI I was the seller. I specifically wrote my original post in order to be a little vague about this.
Buyer bought an external firewire hard drive and couldn't make it work with a Dell laptop. Long story short - buyer did not know what they were buying, nor what they needed. No firewire on the laptop, just usb. Buyer insisted on a refund ("you didn't tell me it wouldn't work on a Dell laptop" ) which I agreed to - but I also sent a tersely worded email about how it's not my responsibility to ensure compatibility with your system, and that it was their fault for wasting my time. Just seeing if I was out of line.

No, it would not change my answer (I agree that the buyer should sell it on his own), but I was just curious. Everyone who posted above me assumed he was the buyer. I read it and assumed he was the seller since most people on here would research their purchase and whether it was the right item before making it (again, just my assumption). Personally, I would not have given a refund, or I would have made it very inconvenient for the buyer, since he is making it convenient for me due to his own error.

the buyer is wrong. It will work with a dell laptop, just not theirs as it currently is. My GF's Dell Vostro 1500 has FW built in. My Dell laptop at work has a FW PC card, and that drive would work fine with it. Not your problem.
