Simple Excel help

I did past values and then it changed the date format to a 5 digit number, I then selected format cells and clicked on date and it still changes the year of the date. Thanks for everyones help but I will quit for the night and try tomorrow.

I new it was simple, it was the 1904 date system...in the excel preferences.
