I searched the forum and found this thread discussing the exact problem I'm having...
http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1...msg-824289
Since I have no Apple Care on this machine, and I am not close to an Apple Store (hundreds of miles away), who should I contact to see if Apple will fix this? There are Apple Authorized Resellers in my local area. Should I contact them, or contact Apple first?
TIA!

hmm, no idea, I would suggest to call Apple and ask them.
if there is no other way, you can try to ship it to someone you trust and have them take it to an Apple store.
BTW where are you?

Any Apple authorized service provider can help you. Not all resellers are service providers though.

I took one in to my local Apple store for the same cracking problem. Took them about an hour to fix. The Genius said that warranty status didn't matter they were fixing all of them. Call Apple, maybe they'll send a prepaid box.

Use this to locate a service provider; there is no need to go to Apple Store.

Where do I live? Try looking up Ethan, SD on your Google map. Population all of 300, but I think we may have gained 5 or 6 since the last census.
We really just consider ourselves to be a suburb of the big city of Mitchell... it's got a WalMart.

Yeah... that's where I will take it. But, since they are not Apple owned stores, I did not know if I should contact Apple first. I wasn't sure if Apple authorized service providers would fix it under the same unofficial guidelines as an Apple store, since it's out of warranty.
