I don't know why sofas interest me, only that they do. It's not like I'm in the market for one. And I'm not even a big fan of '50s/'60s style stuff necessarily. Often too much kitsch, like how Americana is often contrived.
At any rate what does appeal to me about mid-century modernism is the sparse lines and particularly for furniture, shorter sides. I don't like sinking down into a sofa; it's like sitting in a bathtub, and you have reach over a high side to get your drink.
