Can my iPhone really not...

...assign ringtones to Groups? I've been googling for quite a while and consensus is that it can't, but I find that hard to believe. All the results I'm getting are dated more than a year ago, so I'm hoping it's just a matter of not searching properly. I'm pretty sure my old flip phone could even handle something like that.

Here's what I'm trying to do. I'd like to select numbers from my "Recents" call log and create a Group named Spam, put those numbers in that Group, then assign a silent ringtone to them. Seems as though it should be simple enough, but I'm finding a lot of "can't be done" hits in my searches.

Could it be that it really can’t be done? I don't want to jailbreak the phone.

Do it another way. Don't call it a group. Group the numbers into a single caller name. Give the first number the name Spam 1. Spam 1 can have perhaps 10 phone numbers: home, work, mobile, and 7 "others".

When that is filled, create Spam 2, with a like amount of numbers. Give each the silent ring tone.

That's what I'm doing and it works.

Yep. As noted in my second post in this thread, that's exactly what i did and it seems to have worked fine. I'll know for certain when I don't hear (or feel) the next robocall that gets sent to voice mail.

As for giving out cell phone numbers, it certainly adds to the possibility of telemarketers, etc. But even if you never give it out, the robocallers will eventualy get to your number(s). Confusedmiley_gun_sniper:

A single contact can be in many groups. If two groups each containing a certain contact are assigned different ringtones, then there is a conflict. This could be the reason its not a 'feature'

iOS 7 will fix this as there is an ignore option.

That's what I was thinking. Wait a few months for ios 7.

I just discovered the retardedness of my iPhone; that it doesn't come with a silent ringtone. There is a None sound for texts but it can't be used as a ringtone for calls. It's easy enough to add a silent ringtone but I think it's silly for it not to already have one.
