Perhaps a long shot..last chance to stream my son's concert
#11
Black and deckeda- thanks for your posts! Black, you raise some good questions! My son does continue to play bassoon with the OU Symphony Band. He has played with the Symphony Band for the past three years. It was only after he was recruited, and took on the challenge of playing the contrabassoon, that he has played with the Orchestra. It means twice as many rehearsals, and twice as much practicing, but he has enjoyed the challenge. Yes, "piece" or "work" is the correct terminology. I have been very impressed with the difficulty of the literature both the Symphony Band and Orchestra have performed. The music college certainly challenges him and he has really progressed a great deal as a musician. While it would be nice if our son was closer to home (so we could attend the concerts in person), OU is a good fit for him!

Thanks again for your post and interest!

I see. I had assumed he was studying music, but I'm thinking not, or at least mot music performance, as playing in band is usually kind of a bad trip for a "serious" bassoonist.

deckeda-I really enjoyed "Black Dog" ! The clarinet soloist could make her clarinet speak and sing with tones I never thought were possible! A very talented young lady. Black- actually our son is a bassoon performance major. The OU bassoon studio is made up of very advanced musicians. I admired my son's willingness to take on the greater challenge of the OU program rather than settle for less of a challenge at another (perhaps smaller) college. He could have been a big fish in a small pond at any number of colleges near here, but he chose the more rigorous program at OU. I am proud of him! Thanks again for your interest and posts!
