I'm one of the other dozen or so people that enjoyed the narration in Blade Runner.
And keep in mind that Lucas didn't "mean" to screw up Episode's I, II, and III either...

When has a sequel this far removed from the original ever worked well? I can't think of any off hand.
Indiana Jones and the Cryst--wait, scratch that.

The Hustler --> The Color Of Money worked pretty well. Not that TCoM is a "classic" but it did not "ruin" the original.

Not as far removed, but Aliens was an excellent sequel. Though it was a TOTALLY different movie from Alien. So i enjoyed it...just for different reasons.

You know what would be cool?
If instead of re-doing the same movie or "re-imagining" it, they just stuck to the book.
No. Noir.
Talkative neighbors, questionable definitions of humanity, an emotionless affair, an incompetent robot vet assistant, a dead spider, an electric frog toad, empathy boxes, manic depression and no idea who is human or why any of it is supposed to matter.
That'd be cool.*
*If Terry Gilliam did it.

BTW, the directors cut of "Aliens" really improves the movie. "Prometheus" wasn't perfect but it was thoroughly enjoyable. The effects were stunning.
