So on this new Google car, will you have to watch ads while it's moving?

Only if you opted for one with the Nest A/C.

We have potholes bigger than that car.

When I was a younger man, the concept of a self-driving automobile was abhorrent to me. Back then, not only did I enjoy driving, but the thought of riding in a vehicle not under human control was completely offputting.

Fast forward thirty years.

After half a lifetime of driving in L.A. traffic, I can't wait for this to become a reality. Implemented properly, self-driving automobiles will eliminate the following:
- accidents due to drivers not giving complete attention to the act of driving
- delays due to poor decisions by inferior/inattentive drivers (an L.A. staple)

I anticipate optimization of traffic flow once the majority of vehicles on the road are self-driving and will totally be onboard with this concept once they work out the major kinks.

UNTIL THEN, however, there is no way I would ride around in one of those things while inattentive fools driving around in their SUVs and other vehicles are still in the mix.

They will take the place of cabs with drivers. Just call up one on your smartphone, put in the address, and it will take you there.

You won't need to own a car. And if you do, you'll have to get out of the city to drive it. They won't allow driverless and driven cars on the same roads.
