How much is the full retail for the 6 & 6 Plus?

The only one the Apple Store sells advertises for sale without a contract is the TMobile version

Fixed.

Apple is geared toward selling phones via the traditional contractually subsidized sales model. But that doesn't mean they don't sell unsubsidized, unlocked handsets. They just don't really publicize that fact.

Customers need to know what to ask for ("device only"), and not expect much in the way of support in situations that deviate from the typical ways.

Black,

Note this deal. It's only 8 GB, though.

Virgin Mobile offers the Apple iPhone 4s 8GB Prepaid Smartphone for Virgin Mobile in Black, model no. MD865LL/A, or White, model no. MD866LL/A, for an in-cart price of $279.99. Coupon code "4SRMN15" cuts it to $237.99. With free shipping, that's $7 under our March mention, $112 off list, and the lowest total price we've seen for this model with Virgin Mobile. It features an Apple A5 processor, Retina 3.5" display, front- and rear-facing cameras, 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, 1080p video, 802.11n, and Bluetooth 4.0. Coupon expires September 11.

That's pretty close. Too bad it is 4 models old and still north of $200.

I don't disagree that the bump costs that much, but I was speaking to the cost of the part. I do disagree on the difference in class—both iPhone and iPad are tablets. The point of my whole post was to show that the price discrepancy between the size of the tablet and the cost of components doesn't correlate. Apple just has bigger margins on the phone.

Ah, the component cost. Sure. However I still contend the iPad is viewed as a different class of device and tablets have trended lower in price than phones. Given the performance, given the battery life, given the screen size. If you compare phone prices, the bigger phones tend to cost more than smaller phones with otherwise similar specs.
