If you've got an Ethernet connection to your network, why do you need wifi? Do you move your iMac around? I have Airport turned off on my iMac 27". Ethernet is faster.

Wifi is included in Macs to avoid running wires all over the place. Not all layouts are conducive to wired connections.

Well, since you're in an apartment, I won't even suggest moving the router with your iMac. But if you find that either the Airport card or the antenna in the iMac is kaput, it will be cheaper to buy a USB wireless adapter from our hosts than to have the Apple Store take the iMac apart: http://eshop.macsales.com/search/usb+wireless /Mr Lynn
