Real ID reqirements

PA is still issuing non Real ID licenses as first time licenses. If you want Real ID, you need to pay more to get one issued. Need basically the same info to get the non Real ID except for some stupid reason, you need 2 pieces of mail with your name on it to your current address. You can even send empty envelopes addressed to yourself. The fact that you have a birth certificate, valid passport and social security card isn’t enough. Our politicians are the biggest f’ing morons.

California somehow messed up checking that mailing address requirement early on in their RealID program when I got mine. So after the fact they mailed a letter to me asking me to somehow confirm receiving it. Not sure what they would do to the already issued RealID license if they didn't get confirmation.

Eh, just get it done. It's not a big deal.

It mostly messes up people living in poverty without access to stuff like birth certificates or passports, and women who have to demonstrate a legal name-change from their marriage.
What I find interesting is that, at least in this state, those documents used to be required just to get a drivers license. Back then, when documents like birth certificates were much harder to get copies of, no one ever made a big deal about it. It's only since they dropped those requirements and then want to add them back for a "Real ID" that people are complaining.
