20 x 25 x 4 Air Filters for AC/Furnace..
#11
[quote decocritter]I bought a Filtrete one at Lowes. It was $29.00. I offered them the $20 they used to sell them for. They countered at $21 plus tax. I took it.

I have never bargained in a retail establishment. I watched a morning show where they said to be very nice and try.

I nicely told them, I did not feel like going over to Home Depot (which was out).

I did not realize they were so competitive.
I attended some Karass (http://www.karrass.com) buying/negotiation management seminars in Chicago (with the NOW Mayor Daily having a campaign luncheon next door, too) a few years back. And they said to go around and negotiate EVERYTHING...just to see how price-flexible people can be.

Pretty cool class, really, for an IT guy. But, hey, regulated utilities can afford it on YOUR DIME! Smile

[quote h'][quote Pat]Air flow is towards the furnace.
Or to the left in your instance.
I've tried to talk way too many people through stuff to assume what someone else's perspective is. Especially when you're not physically in the same place.

I can take "On my installation the furnance is on the left, the air filter holder next, then a big tin box is next." as the furnace is on MY left, then the next thing is the filter slide, then the plenum. In which case airflow would be to the right.

Doesn't matter where the furnace is, just point the arrow on the filter towards it.

How's a free Filtrete sound to you?

if you go through the thread, it appears that printing out the older rebate form still gets you the deal.

What is the plenum?

When facing the front of my unit (part that has a removable Goodman panel)... The main furnace gas jets are on the left, filter slide next, and a big tin chute (which I think is return air from looking at where it branches off to)

A plenum is just a fancy word for ductwork. You have the intake plenum where the filter is and the exit pleum where the ducts take the air from the furnace and deliver it to the rest of the house.

Yes, that is the air return. Air flows from that into the furnace. Even simpler, like Pat said, just point the arrow on the filter toward the furnace.

If you still have your old filter (and remember how it was installed), then the dirty side is where the air flows from. Smile
