[quote macphanatic]I think that car mfg's are reducing window size in an effort to make them even quieter. Large windows tend to increase noise transmission (until someone figures out how to use insulated windows :-) ). Not to mention glass being heavier than sheet metal and probably more expensive per square foot.
Besides, more and more drivers really have no need to see out of their cars, as proven by the growing amount of texting going on while driving.

[quote Thrift Store Scott][quote M A V I C]All you guys complaining about backing up and not being able to see, you do realize many cars have an option for an assist feature which is way more accurate than your eyes, right? LOL!!!
Those systems are good WHEN they work, IF they work, and ONLY FOR AS LONG as they work, whereas a properly sized and placed rear window works like a charm every time provided it is kept reasonably clean.
And as I've mentioned, the only time I've had problems with mine is when snow is piled up on the bumper. You'll have the same problem if snow is piled up on a rear window. They also work regardless of lighting conditions, unlike windows. From my experience, such systems work in a wider range of conditions than windows.

Most cars have pretty long warranties anymore, so if it stopped working I'd just have it fixed for free. Of course I still look (when I can) just in case it does quit on me, but it's been very helpful many times.
