Blond twins with D-cups would be considered a GREAT score...

Does he need a maintenance man/head artificer?
I mean, some custom knobs or something. You can turn knobs by hand, right Paul?

[quote jdc]doesnt it affect your credit negatively if you check a lot?
or does that have to do with something else?
No, that's pretty much right -- inquiries can affect your score, but... you are entitled to one free check (from all three bureaus) per year. I just checked mine, and did notice that at least one of the three bureaus is separating inquiries that affect your score from inquiries that don't. (One would assume your checking your own score should fall in the latter category.) This makes a lot of sense. Since you cannot directly control who does the inquiries, this doesn't seem quite fair, but I'd also assume that inquiries are not a major factor in the determination of your score.

there arw whjat are knows as "soft" enquiries. Those are for instance, a CC company looking at your score to see if they want to mail you an offer.
You have nothing to do with this enquiry, and it doesn't indicate extra financial risk for you. Whan you APPLY for that card, another but this time REAL enquiry is made, and then it shows up as a "hard" enquiry, and it counts.
You can have dozens of "soft" enquiries a year, and not even know it.

Hey, Credit Karma is a nice find. Thanks DavidS!
As of today I have a score of 892. That's pretty good, right?
It also says I'm at 96.4% National Percentile... I believe that's pretty good too!
Maybe I should apply for a loan. The credit bureaus seem to think I'm a good risk.

So is the Credit Karma score the true FICO score or is it their own thing? FICO is the one that matters.

wurm, the Credit Karma one is one of the three major bureaus, as is the one from MyFICO -- you can get all three, but not all free. I now have two of the three... good enough!
