Is it bad etiquitte to offer items for sale in this forum?
#11
It is kind of moot, for the item in mind anyway, as it was bought with the buy-it now price from a local buyer. Something good to think about for the future, though.

BTW, it was not a computer, it was a camera.

Selling to people you "know" thru the forum could be nice, but might there be potential for bad seller/buyer experiences to spill over into the regular dialogue?

My dad always said NEVER sell anything to kinfolk or friends. He also said to NEVER lend them money...if they are hurting you GIVE it to them with no expectation of getting it back. Have followed that advice and never had any problems. I have seen, with others, decades long friendships ruined over a $20 loan or a $100 lawn mower.

Too true.

I think that giving stuff away has always been ok on the forum (someone is doing so right now). On a related note, I wish the very generous Matt Kime would give his stuff away here instead of on the LEM list ;-). kj.

[quote lafinfil][quote graylocks][quote lafinfil]The UnDoug set up a site for us, but sadly it does not get the traffic

http://macswap.org/

I would encourage anyone that wants to deal with folks you know try posting there

I realize that there is not much traffic there but if folks here started using it we could possibly see it increase.
i didn't even know that site existed. maybe the forum could put a link to it on the front page?
I believe it was discussed between Larry & Doug but I'm not sure why it didn't happen.
The IT guys are probably busy enough so maybe it still may happen some day.
the IT guys have their hands full just feeding, and cleaning up after the hamsters..........

Ive bought a few hard drives, cables, and Macs from forum members that PM'd or emailed me after I posted a question about trying to find a certain item.

It would be nice to have a swap meet section to this forum. Log my vote to bump this up the priority list. I didn't know about the macswap.org but I will be checking it out.

The camera buy/sell at fredmiranda.com is a very efficient marketplace for photo gear that does just what is mentioned in this thread: avoiding the crapola of ebay and craigslist. It has a feedback system that is simple and effective. I bought 3 lenses there this summer.
