No, because USB, networks, and CDs provided superior solutions.

There is currently no general purpose interface better than FireWire.

(Read this carefully: The poster I responded to was using a 6 year old PowerBook and backing up to a USB drive. Think about it for awhile.)

Apple dropped it to increase their already large profit margin. Of course they probably wouldn't have if they thought they couldn't get away with it. kj.

Likely, you're correct. But, slowing to a dead stop during copying issues with several of them taught me to shy away from bus-powered hard disk drives.

P.S. Article, I understand and no doubt 3D understands, too. Depending on the amount of data being backed up and the time allocated for it, it's a non-issue. Oy.
