How to make a backup copy of a Wii game? On a Mac, I mean.
#1
I put a Wii disk in my mini and had to reboot it with the mouse pressed in order to get the disk out. An external burner I have just spits it right out.

Read something about having to buy a mod chip for the console, something about having to track down 1 of 4 LG optical drives just so the disks can be read, something about buying Game Copy Pro ...

Before I go through all the hassle of that (not to mention installing Windows on my Mac) is there another way?

No, pretty much I think you need a specific type of DVD drive to read it. After you read it, you might
need a mod chip to play the copy.

I never got motivated enough to look into it further.

Yup, timg nailed it, you need a very specific model of burner to read the disc, then software to decrypt it, software to burn it, and a modchip on the Wii to get it to play.

The drives are:
LG-8164b or LG-8163b or LG-8162b

They are still available on eBay eBay link

seems like an awful lot of work to save a few bucks.

i could see if you wanted to play a copy of, say, DDR Mario Mix http://cube.ign.com/objects/723/723137.html

Do not buy Game Copy Pro - complete scam.

That being said, you need one of a few specific DVD-Rom drives from LG to properly copy the disc. You will also need to mod your Wii optical drive to read copied discs.
