Apple Just Isn't What It Used To Be

Ok. Ok. So, I'm a dramatic, little girl... as in not a bro or a stud.

I didn't say that Apple made hard drives. I've read plenty of Apple history to know that's not the case. I only meant that if the guts of a Mac are essentially the same as those other computers, it does not make sense that Macs cost so much more.

I will never leave Apple. I will not get a Dell. Eww.

I'm just disappointed. And I've had bad experiences with Apple before, so I may be a little naive, but I'm not completely. This was just the last straw, because yes, I did feel like Apple software may have been a contributing factor to my computer crashing.

I don't hate Apple by any means; I just see room for improvement.

And honestly, I kind of wanted to see if y'all would boot me out the way my dad told me you would. But it was mildly amusing.

Your feelings have been invalidated by the collective.
Resistance is futile.

We also haven't determined if it's a guy. We're calling this person "dude" and it could be a girl... Welcome 'bound!
That said I have had only one problem with 4 Macs I've owned. My Pismo is still cranking and the iMac that had a bad power supply was fixed and is humming along nicely, thank you. My new iMac is as smooth as a gravy sandwich.
I don't know of any product that is perfect; Toyota is recalling 4 million vehicles. Perhaps the luck of the draw hasn't been favoring you; nothing more. But we are here to help!

"my Mac costs three times as much as my friends' [more or less] comparable HPs or Dells?"

LESS comparable. i'd wager FAR less.

what model, and how much did they cost? how's the battery life?

FWIW, i think that newer Macs don't seem to be "built to last" like old ones - then again, this is how Apple forces the purchase of another Mac.

having said that - there have been some great stories about Apple replacing failing G5 towers that are long out of warranty with Mac Pros. they didn't HAVE to do that, and people have had to press a bit to get them - but they do it.

i'd say my biggest complaint with Apple hardware over the years has been "2 steps forward, 1 step back" with each new release of hardware. they give some, then take some away. and for the money, you don't always get top of the line graphics cards or optical drives. in fact, OptiArc drives (NEC/Sony hybrids) that Apple uses just plain SUCK.

You guys win. I'm done. I concede.

I've never been called a troll so much in my life, but it made me laugh.

If I ever come back, I'll be singing Apple's praises.

Best Wishes, All.

In all fairness, you came in here with 'guns a blazin'. To many here, you seemed contemptuous. Then you started making statements like Dell's and HP's are a couple of times cheaper than a comparable Mac. Such statements fly in the face of facts (please post a regular priced example of a comparable HP or Dell that's 2-3 times cheaper than a Mac). In some ways, you're thread is a self-fulfilling prophecy. There are so many better ways this all could have turned out if you hadn't been so condescending to begin with.

Man that was quick. Looks like you've been rode hard and put up wet.

I will agree with at least one thing you brought up, Snow Leopard was not ready for primetime.
I still haven't got my WiFi connection problems straightened out on my MacBook. I may be
10.5 bound at anytime. Wife has threatened me with bodily harm if I put SL on the Mini.

OK. Let's start over. Hard drives are man-made mechanical devices. They will occasionally fail. It is a known fact. It is so well known that manufacturers publish the failure rate information with their drives. It is the 'mean time to failure'. They fail. Computer manufacturers know that. The Hard drive manufacturers know that. Most consumers know that. It is why people have backups. It is why large corporations spend ENORMOUS sums of money on backup strategies and redundant hard drive arrays.

The difference between Apple and Dell is that if you had a Dell it would already be out of warranty, unless you had purchased an extended warranty, thus negating the cost savings of buying a Dell. You also have OS X on the Apple. Until you have been forced to work with Windows for your livelihood you don't realize how nice OS X is. It isn't perfect, but it is much closer than Windows is (Windows7 is getting closer though). Until you've tried to have a hard drive replaced under warranty from HP or Dell you don't realize how nice Apple's customer service is.

So, in conclusion, call Apple, send the computer back, wait 3 days, and be happy. With Dell, they send you a drive and say "good luck"...

Statements like this;
"I am not an idiot, so don't any of you dare patronize me."

DO tend to set the tone of a thread early on...

You're welcome back any time... I'm just suggesting a quick proof read of your posts before clicking "Post Message".... 'cause hey, how would YOU read that? I'm thinking you'd be calling "Troll" just as quick.
