Justice Clarence Thomas has not asked a question in four years.

Hmmm. Just thought that fact jumped from the article for me.
When he does finally ask a(nother) question, it will really need to be a duesy!

All but Clarence Thomas— who hasn't asked a question in more than four years — fired questions at the lawyers who took the lectern.

why would you ask a question when you already know the answer ?

Well, I always know the answers to the questions I ask my children. It gives them the option of telling you the truth. And then you know where you stand. Not sure this is even theoretically possible with lawyers, though. Wink

I have no idea if it is true or not, but I find that very difficult to believe.

This is now political?
Asking or not asking a question about boring cases such as this bankruptcy, as well as the very nature of SCOTUS is not political.
Whatevah.

I would check the transcripts, but they cost $$ thru westlaw... (I HATE our 'for fee' court document system.) This is a theory that has been bandied about for several years.

It's true, the last time Thomas asked a question during oral argument was Feb. 2006.

He says he's quiet because he doesn't want to give attorneys before the bench a "hard time." Not sure what cases would be like if every justice tood that approach.

He also famously said he wished his colleagues would "just shut up" but later backed away from that.
