A double-digit lead can mean complacency among the voters who support the leading candidate, which can mean they don't turn out, which can mean an upset would be possible. Obama will try to fire up the Democrats and ask them to go to the polls to be sure the lead doesn't evaporate.
He also gets an easy campaign stop since O'Donnell has set herself up to be a fabulous target and the Dems won't have to work too hard for material for that appearance.
Plus, it's Biden's home state so it's kind of de rigueur that the President and Vice President should make a swing through there.

Once FreedomWorks changed their mind and decided to support O'Donnell, the Tea Party became Fair Game for any O'Donnell runoff that splashes on them.

Yeah, the Democrats would wait to have it handed to them.
They're so polite and play in a completely different sandbox with a fairer set of rules than the GOP.
