It's horrible that your home was violated in that way, but it is SO cool that you got your stuff back!

Seems like most cops could not care less about minor property crimes - your guys jumped right on it.
It's a matter of resources vs crime against people vs crimes against property. Getting fingerprints is of no immediate help if the crooks don't have any on file. And in many cases, there is no CSI magic that will yield MATCH FOUND. The cops just hope to match the prints against someone they catch. Which doesn't happen often in these kinds of cases unless the cops catch a break. Enter Find My iPhone. There have been a *lot* of these recoveries nationwide, and most cops want to catch bad guys. Knowing where the crooks are goes a long way to motivating police in a case where there are no witnesses, no clues, and virtually no chance of every catching them Book 'em, Dan-o.

I have found the find iPhone/iPad feature to be very accurate. Last week I could not find my iPad. The find feature showed it to be in front of our house. It was sitting on our park bench next to the drive way where I set it when unloading the car. It has also shown me which end of our house our iPhones and iPads are in.
As for the burglary, we had our garage raided several years ago soon after moving in and I lost a lot of new power tools - about $2500 worth. The guy was caught, he ratted on his buddies, and got off on a plea bargain. I received no restitution but had to stand the $1000 insurance deductible. |
