I wish I knew something about speakers because I'd like to get some. Too bad my budget is basically nothing right now. I don't even know where to start.
[poll] how many pairs of speakers makes one a Speaker W-ore?

The woofers are acoustic suspension, with two different crossover frequencies. Wharfedale did this early on with the W90, but I don't think that Infinity used similar sand-filled cabinet panels. Still have the receipt from an outfit that was called Pacific Stereo. Were about $1500 back around 1980 when mom and dad bought them. Still have the digital receiver and B&O turntable too.

RacerX those are nice speakers, I knew a guy owned a pair for while. Looks like they need new woofer
foam surrounds. I have a pair Realistic Minimus 7's, a pair of vintage JBL bookshelf speakers and a pair of 80's Klipsch Cornwall's. I picked up the JBL's and the Cornwall's at yard sales. I got the Cornwall's for about a 1/10th what new ones cost. They're a matched pair in Walnut, even have the original boxes but the boxes have deteriorated quite a bit over the years, I'll probably have to toss them some day. http://www.klipsch.com/cornwall-iii-floo...ng-speaker

Those aren't my specific speakers. I need new foam for mine though.

Back in my Navy days, when I was young and foolish and would have spent more on a stereo system than a car, I would regularly visit the base exchange and drool over these:
![]() Huge, 5' 3" floor-standing speakers. Fortunately(?) I never managed to have enough to buy them. I ended up with a pair of Cerwin-Vegas with 15" woofers and horn tweeters & midrange. Loud enough to get the shore patrol up to the barracks at 2 AM. ![]() They came in a black laminate case that has held up pretty well after being dragged around from place to place over the last 25 years. Still have them (part of the 7.1 system).

Berkeley, Emeryville, Santa Rosa, Walnut Creek, Peasant Hill, Hayward... mostly as relief for techs who were sick or on vacation. Physics alone wasn't paying for Ferraris. Also, I could handle 88 hour work weeks better back then. Eustace |
