aggressive driver video
#21
That's not just recklessness-- that's some sort of cognitive/neurological problem.

I don't agree.

To be sure, that's just a guess on my part, and could be completely wrong.

I'm guessing that the driver has lived in the area for some time and is familiar enough to fully form a conscious decision that they just don't feel they have to stop. Who's going to make them? GAF attitude, acting out, and sorely in need of an attitude adjustment.

Years ago there was a 17 year old kid who was a real jerk, and his mother was no better. The kid would to 40-45 in the tract which was a 25mph zone for good reason. He'd power through the turns leaving skid marks in the street, and chase young kids out of the street. You could hear his car coming before you ever saw him. A real smart-ass, and a accident waiting to happen.

This went on for months and calls to the police didn't get anything done because they could never catch him. Luckily there were a couple of detectives in the area on unrelated business when he came ripping through. One got out of his car to flag him down and the kid made a show of coming at the guy, not knowing who he was. It was just a show but seeing guns pointed at him, he knew this would not end well.

He and mom went to jail and we never saw him drive again. That was nothing but luck. No video cameras back then, at least not for consumers.

And I have to say that was some very nice video, s-t. I wouldn't waste time talking to the driver. If you can get some examples of her aggressive actions, that might get some help.

Or spike strips.

I'd like to see people stop at stop signs.
I'd report this person to the authorities and your elected representatives.
At the same time, I'd confess, I've seen much more egregious aggressiveness.
I also confess to occasionally missing or ignoring a stop sign myself - although I usually slow down to ~10-15mph if I see it. If I'm going to stop I'm adamant about taking the full 3 seconds of no wheels moving.

Sure, what we not-so-affectionately call a "california stop", is the norm here. kj.

Thank you for posting the video. So many people almost stop, but don't, so when you originally posted I couldn't help but wonder if you were exaggerating. But no, she's clearly a menace. It looks to me as if she believes that stop sign is optional.

When I was in high school, kids would tell new drivers, "when you see a stop sign with a white border, that means it's optional; they can't give you a ticket for rolling through it." Of course, every stop sign (around here at least) has a white border. Every now and then a kid would buy it. That's what this video looks like to me.

I really don't know is this something that is NOT my business or if I should report it. I am afraid that she might hurt some kid if this continues.

It is your business (you pay taxes, you live there, and laws are repeatedly being broken). You have done an okay thing by recording it and it should be reported.

Do NOT approach the driver or try to talk with them. You have no idea if the driver (or a friend of the driver) is a nutcase or violent. Then if they ignore you and the cops get involved, guess who they will blame?

Just go to the local police and say you have a concern, mention the school bus stop and show them the video. Be reasonable - this won't be at the top the crimes list but I'm betting that someone will be in the area the next day at that time.

(Just be sure to stick around and record that fun too)

Agree with all the others above. This needs to be shown to the police, they need to be lying in wait in an unmarked car, and it should be done anonymously. Sooner or later, she'll hit a kid or a pet.

My impression from watching the video is that she thinks the stop signs are optional and/or do not apply to her, or that if no one else is around, that she doesn't need to stop.

I also repeat my previous suggestion: if you have a neighborhood watch or association, this should be brought to their attention, then bring it to the police as a group. That way, it isn't just one person reporting it, it's the whole community agreeing that this is illegal, unacceptable behavior and needs to be stopped.

Virtually nobody ever loses their "right to drive" for very long in this country. They must have moved away.

I watched it on my little phone before commenting-- looked to me like they clipped the curb 2/3 times (the phone's speaker may have been part of that) but watching it big with good sound, I still see some horrible judgment/ poor control of the vehicle their. There's some sort of impairment IMO.

But either way, there need to be consequences.

The number one fear that every parent in this country lives with (except the Amish and the people who keep their kids in basement closets maybe) is that their kid will get hit by a car. It's so completely ubiquitous that we almost aren't even aware of it, and barely talk about it.
Maybe "aggressive" is not the right word here, but imagine you saw this out your front window several times a day with your kids playing outside.
