[Pics] Bicycles with extremely fat tires
#1
These are pics I took of some bicycles at a fancy bike shop in the Land Park area of Sacramento.

I think they're the biggest and fattest tires I've ever seen on bicycles. I guess they're for when you want to ride your bike anywhere.

$2K bicycles...

Fatbikes look like fun. I think most people have used them in the snow, but I've heard they're a blast to ride in general. It doesn't seem like they would be fun on a summer ride, but I haven't ridden one yet, so maybe we'll see. I think it would be painful to replace the tires at 100.00 a piece though! kj.

Saw one like that in the window of a local bike shop. Maybe when I was younger I'd have considered something like this. Now I'd go for comfort.

My first bike was a ballooner.
They were popular before the sixties but it wasn't good for much beyond riding in the woods, the beach and sand pits. :-)
I guess that was the idea, don't leave the yard.

My second ( real ) bike was an english racer (raleigh roadster). Something one could actually use and have fun getting somewhere in the street with.

I saw someone riding one in a fairly low-income neighborhood (assumed it had to be a Surly Pugsly or Steamroller) and just out of curiosity searched to see if I could find evidence of one like it being stolen. In the process I learned that you can buy these at Wal-Mart/K-Mart for $199.....

I haven't kept up with bicycle technology. They use disk brakes with these tires & rims?

There's a really funny spoof on that bike somewhere, that involves a guy showing up to a mtb race with one of those and beating everyone. I think it looks like a fun bike for 200.00, although it would be a waste if you wanted to ride seriously in any way. kj.
