Very kind gesture. Good to know there are still good kids out there.

His motivation may not be too difficult to understand, however: The way the Sox are playing this year, who would WANT to keep one of their balls?

(I say this as a Red Sox fan who is still trying to figure out how we can be so bad this year after being so good last year. This season is almost -- ALMOST -- enough to make a BoSox fan fondly remember the Bobby Valentine era!)

The end of that story is as sweet as the beginning:

(The reporter) presented Ryan with two baseballs - one from each announcer - Remy and Don Orsillo.

"That's called 'paying it forward,'" Striewski told Ryan.

"I saw people do it before," Ryan said. "I thought it was a nice thing and it's good to make people happy."

The Red Sox also gave Ryan a bag of treats, including a bracelet. Ryan gave that to his new friend as well.
