Which Air and Cabin Filter to Purchase?

I go with FRAM branded filters. I recall comparing them a while back and FRAM was able to filter more fine particle pollution than the others for about the same price.

But Cbelt is correct - check first, most of the time they are fine unless you travel dirt roads a lot.

Or live in a city like Atlanta that floods the air with pollen. When the pines get going it can look like the whole city has been covered in sulfur dust.

And I've found bits of detritus in our cabin air filters as well. Actually glad these aren't going into the vent system. We have one old car where I occasionally pull leaves out through a cabin vent.

That's not a valid test of a filter. A filter may look perfectly OK even when it's filtering capacity is drastically reduced due to clogging by very fine material and vacuuming is unlikely to remove this material. If you're running charcoal impregnated filters this is even more apt since it is impossible to visually gauge whether the charcoal capacity has been exceeded.

I don't know about Air filters or cabin filters, but FRAM's oil filters are about the worst you can buy.

you are technically correct, but I still like cars with cabin air filter. My old Civic doesn't have one, and I drive very little and I have to clean up the car more often than wife's car, which is driven more often, and has a cabin air filter.
