Onkyo said remove the batts and press all the buttons and try again.
That did it, for a couple times. So I suppose my issue may be dirty pads under the buttons.

So the remote is firing (maybe just too weak?) and the receiver takes IR from another device. I think you need to try fresh batteries in the remote and try to reset the code again.

opened the remote and gave it a good wipe with 70%.
All happy now. Catastrophe averted. Call back the National Guard. Now to decide what tonites post dinner film will be.

How did you open the remote? Usually they have those plastic clips that break if you try to open.

slowly and carefully. I'm a former tech, so I've learned a few things. That's not to say I haven't failed on some others.
Just like opening an early mini, or just about any cell. Thin flat blades screwdrivers. But a hammer if all else fails. Fixes nothing and everything.

Before resorting to a hammer, a hairdryer on low heat is also helpful for
opening 'snap fit' plastics. Use it & a shaved old credit-card to shuck USB drives.
