Office Depot $6 iPod speakers showed up
#11
They sound rather tinny, but not completely horrible. You can listen to them and they would be OK for a kid or somewhere that you just wanted to hear your music without headphones, but nothing like the Altec Lansing imMini's that I have. These are made to "look" just like the imMini, except that they have no dock and sound a lot worse.

Again, I would say they are worth about $6, but the fact that they misrepresented what they were and also acted like they had previously sold for $49 is what irritates me. I would have thought an outfit as large as OD would be more concerned about things like that. I guess not.

[quote rgG]Me too. I got mine today and I think they were barely worth the $6, no more. I noted when I posted the deal here that they gave very little info about them. I am sorry that they were not anywhere near as nice as I thought they should be, since they had apparently been $49. I would have really been upset if I had paid anything like $49. I wonder if these and the $49 ones had the same SKU.

Sorry it was a crappy product. I had no way of knowing and I was the first one suckered in. I guess that old saying about if it looks too good to be true, it probably is held up once again. I don't think they said that it had a dock, but I also think they were intentionally vague. Sad

Again, I am sorry that it turned out badly for all of us.
I don't blame you at all, we all read the same description from Office Depot, and it's not quite as vague as you recall.

"iPod/MP3 Portable Speakers With Dock Station"

"This compact portable speaker system does double duty as a docking station for your iPod or MP3 player."

"Also includes and AC adapter, a USB cable and a user's manual."

The item number on the website which was listed as $49 about 15 minutes ago, and is "unavailable" now, was 148708342, and the SKU on the packing list was 0708342, and has a description of "MP3 DOCKING STATION". The SKU is similar, to the ending digits of the item number.

My packing list says the UPC is 6-82256-10386-2 which doesn't seem to be a valid UPC, while the UPC label on the white boxes say 6-82256-10386-7 seems to be the valid UPC for this "product". http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.asp?upc=682256103867

I do think we got the product that they were intending to sell, but the description is far from accurate.

I've got two on order. I ordered basically because when you did a pricegrabber search on the same item the same description and item number came up at Office Depot for $49.99.

If they were actually selling this crap at $50 I'd be surprised.

Sounds like I will be asking for my money back.

rgG, don't feel bad. Nothing for you to be sorry about. We all read the same info. Nothing was misrepresented by you, it was OD. Besides, shouldn't be a problem now, everyone will get their money back and get to keep the things.

P. S. Echoing GGD...

Thanks Carnos Jax and GGD for telling me it wasn't my fault. I guess I knew that, but it is still good to hear it from you guys. I was really hoping that they would be better than they are. What sold me on the deal was that they said they had the docking capability. I figured they had to be pretty decent if they had the dock, but that is the main thing that they lied about. I was also misled by the $49.99 previous price. I can't believe that they ever sold any of these for that price. At least it seems that OD is giving credits, so that is good.

The next time I post a deal I hope it is a real deal and not a bait and switch.

Not your fault rgG. Not mine either, I hope for reposting the availability. They misrepresented the product, and I had expected that they might not sound good, but thought that if they had a dock it might still be OK. Oh well, only $6, and I knew that going in. I wrote to them but haven't heard back after a day and a half.

iajim,
I also sent OD an email explaining that the product description did not match the product. I'm not really concerned about the $6 but I would like them to explain how they can say "dock station" and "USB cable included" when there was neither. We will see if they respond.
