Americans' Food Stamp Use Nears All-Time High
#51
Fine, the conservatives do not believe in feeding the needy hungry. It's a good thing that the Democrats won, then, because this country has suffered enough from that kind of selfishness. Just as I do not want my tax money spent on bombs for Iraq, you do not want your tax money to go to feeding our poor. Why don't we agree that you can pay for the bombs and I can pay for the food? Seems fair to me.

I find Black Landlord's tactic pretty much adorable.

You would, Greg. Sorry BL, but it seems like you're assuming he's a homophobe, etc., but no biggie, I guess. kj.
You are wrong, kj. It happens.

I don't believe 'the democrats' want there to be poverty, or a need for social services like food stamps, for any reason.

No, at least the Democrats are pragmatic. Instead of saying "this should not happen therefore it hasn't," they say, "this should not happen" and deal with the problem. Jeebus I am sick of the neocons.

Not once did the word welfare ever leave Obama's lips in 20 months of campaigning. So what is it you are so proud of? Come to think of it, i am getting real hungry. Time for a turkey sandwich (total material, 25 cents). What a country!

The Democrats love feeding _everybody_. Come on in, have a feast. Won't cost you a dime because, Gutenberg is paying for it. LOL

Rog, you used to harp on me for being too "black and white". I've not heard of any children in the U.S. starving to death. Of course, that isn't good enough, but I also don't think it's good enough to say on an internet forum that the gov't needs to do better. We, as people, can do better than the gov't. But it takes more of a commitment than just paying our taxes. kj.

They _think_ they deal with the problem. Pay your taxes and say, "isn't there someone in the gov't that should be taking care of this?". Out of sight, out of mind. And who's a neocon? No one in this forum. kj.

kj, you are being your usual infuriating self, reacting to things that are not said and making sweeping statements that are not remotely true. I do not pay my taxes and say "isn't there someone in the gov't that should be taking care of this?". I do not have an "out of sight, out of mind" attitude. And I NEVER said anyone on this forum was a neocon, even though there are plenty of Bushies here. Even a quick casual read of my statement shows that I was talking about neocons in the present government.

The neocons are trying to pass our general responsibility to care for people who are less fortunate than ourselves to "faith based initiatives." Their efforts do not even approach adequate. Food banks and soup kitchens are overwhelmed, and the unemployment rate will go to nine percent next year, according to economic forecasts.
