Oh nooo! MacPro going to the Genius Bar tomorrow
#11
All I know is that after some sort of software repair at the Genius Bar, my MBP is running better than when I bought it a year ago. Very pleased.

Normally I re-install a clean OS after backing up to an external. However, if the Mac won't boot, it's impossible to protect your data. You just have to change passwords and hope for the best. Really important stuff should be stored on externals anyway, and never exposed to outsiders.

After I thought about it, I decided that I'm OK with just changing my password. That way if there's a software related problem, at least they'll be able to see it.

That makes sense, n'est-ce pas?

Maybe I'll label all my cords while my Mac is gone? Get out the Dymo!

Thanks for your thoughts,

you could just have them send a box to you, put the MacPro in it, and send it back for a fix.

Of course I did that once with an iBook and it fell off the back of a truck, good think I had wiped the drive, and the video didn't work, hope the thief enjoyed it.

And Apple replaced it with the latest model for free.

Two hours to go. Now I have to get everything together,

Do they want me to bring my power cord?

Do they want me to bring my power cord?

They should have everything you they need- keyboard, mice, power cord, sacrificial chickens...

I thought the MacPro's took a sacrificial goat, and the laptops took the chickens.

I would CarbonCopyClone my drive, one pass on the zeros, then put a fresh install of OS X before I took my computer in. If the problem doesn't allow it, then I pull the drive and keep it. That is just me. I don't trust my harddrive with anyone. Smile

I just took a chance and left it all intact. Turned out that they did find that my front FW400 port was bad. Déjà vu after my G5 experience. I've asked them to check for some other glitches, as well.

Three to five days. Sad At least I have my donated PB to use for now.
