Even the mini-9 can deep throat an SD card!

Exactly. Apple fails, because it took away Dell's Mini 10 ability for what the Mini 9 had. Even I understood that one. Wouldn't you prefer some fully-enclosed love instead of just around the periphery?

I just finished reading the comments about this at AppleInsider. What a bunch of maroons.

First, I understand that much of the vitriol is rooted in the despair of losing the Express card slot. Those that miss it have good reasons, but Apple made a judgement call in favor of 99% of users of the 15" (and presumably 13") MBPs. Whether they are right or not will be known, eventually. Now it's just hand-wringing and supposition.

Second, it seems that Apple didn't have much room to work with. They could have done more redesigning to make a push-to-eject slot but didn't. Time constraints? Cost considerations? I don't think a PTE slot is really needed, though I don't care for the aesthetic of the card sticking out. But I have no problem with the Remove When Done modus.

Maybe there will be some Made for MacBooks Pro cards in our future.

Fortunately, in a month or so, this will be a non-issue.

This is the surest sign Steve J. is not on the job. No way he'd approve this inelegant design.

Also seems like an 'audible' - i.e. an add-on after the core was built.

It's just excited to be in a Mac.

just be glad it is a full sized SD slot, and not a mini or micro SD slot. Those are nearly useless (more so than a SD slot on a pro-level laptop)

maybe the lost slot was because AAPL figures folks can either tether or BT their cellphones to get cellular connectivity, which probably accounts for the majority of slot use... perhaps a subtle push to integrate w/ more iPhones. gotta imagine what's left after cell cards for slot use is fairly small, but maybe third parties will come up w/ a FW800 based dongle/adapter w/ some slots/ports for those in need...

I keep hearing a Chinese voice saying " we give you SD slot for free with new design. You like ? "
