Switcher woes

I'm working on my second switcher, but having a huge problem. I lent a mini to my father-in-law in the hopes of convincing him to get a mac. He's trying to read his e-mail thru Earthlink's webmail. When he brings up his inbox he sees his e-mail subjects in blue and when he moves the cursor over the subject to click on it so he can read the e-mail the subject disappears and he cannot click on the empty space. I've never heard of this. Any ideas? He's only described this to me over the phone and isn't too computer savy, so maybe it's something simple. I don't want to lose this one!
