These regulations are only going to worsen the problem. Most US crib manufacturers have quit making cribs. The regulations quickly change, and sometimes back and forth on what can be sold and what can't.
Most cribs anymore are made in China. They don't care about the safety standards. They will sell stuff that has the appearance of being safe, but really isn't. Eventually more kids will get killed by their cheap engineering, but they'll have made their money and not be subject to US law. They use bad wood, cheap hardware and extremely toxic paints and stains. The regulations pretty much only get enforced on US companies.

That just shows how disconnected the regulators are from what's happening. When we searched for a crib a little over a year ago it was nearly impossible to find one that was well built and had a finish that was non-toxic. We ended up getting an unfinished crib and staining it ourselves.
