part of the patent is a tray-feed. That's what Canon's is based on. So Canon can't sell theirs in the US, nor can you order a replacement tray from Canon, and have it shipped into the US.

Some order Canon trays from eBay sellers in the UK, and flash their US Canon printers with the European firmware, and use the European drivers.
