i ordered Epson ink from Amazon last night for the inherited R200. i figure since i don't use the printer that much i might as well use OEM for the reasons you state. and i'll be turning it off!
i'm still futzing with my original R200. it started giving me the 'end of useful life' error message which research reveals means the waste ink pad is full and i need to convert it to a different waste system and reset the counter. didn't even know these problems existed. and it's amazing what one can learn on YouTube!
