I have to say that I also hate the gastronomic faux pas created when "cherry" flavor is designated on *anything* - except of course actual cherries. My best guess is having to swallow treacly sweet and disgusting cough syrup as a kid.
If they are fresh or preserved from real and not those Martian cherries that Food Inc. use in virtually all manner of products, then I'm fine.
