Why would Skype suggest an update that isn't compatible with my current OS?

Like you said, at least iTunes doesn't install and wipe out your older version and leave you with nothing to use. I would not have minded if I had clicked install and it gave me the pop up about not working, BEFORE it installed.

Really poor thinking by Skype, IMHO.
