Interesting that the Dr. Bott actually has a 3.5 amp adapter to supply .5 amp to each port, and D-Link only has 2.5 amp adapter. Have a couple of D-Link's here that have been bulletproof for years, but have never had them full of high drain bus powered devices... can't remember ever having more than two high drain bus powered devices hooked up at the same time. Personal rule of thumb has always been to use 2.0 amp minimum... many of the cheapo specials only have 1.0 amp adapters, which scares me about their ability to even handle a bigger adapter to support more live ports, versus passive ones. A typical assortment of self-powered printers and full size drives, and low powered media readers, input devices, USB scale, etc leaves plenty of power for a couple of bus powered portable drives.
