WD Elements drive flaking out after 8 months.
#7
Just had my second WD failure in the last year or so. This time a 2 TB Western Digital My Book bought in February and used to store my very large iTunes movie library,. The drive would just drop off the line, not even visible to Disk Utility. While copying the movies to another drive before returning it for warranty, replacement, I found that it would drop when copying 15 particular titles or so of the 500 or so. I tried several times to copy those without success.

WD is very good about warranty replacement, but the customer has to pay for return of the bad drive, only $4 for the most recent drive. Also, whether by accident or on purpose, they sent me a 3 TB drive to replace the 2 TB. I'm expecting a bill for the difference when they discover what they did.
