Preconceived notions abound.
How a new or uninformed voter might respond is probably beyond analysis since if they today have no opinion of their choice, they'll be watching their kids recital or game. Vice Presidential nominees, with an exception for Mrs. Palin, are not really any factor in the final vote these days.
Fifty or sixty years ago they were counted on to deliver their state or region (think LBJ) today they are less than nothing and their feeble debate encounters reflect that position.
