Rosemary~! what to do with plant over the winter?

So, I think that Rosemary is little bit more hardy than people think.
Since you mentioned the Rosemary being pruned into hedges, can I assume these are planted in the ground rather than in pots? If that's the case, then root depth might play a part in their hardiness as well as the ground retaining heat better than a pot.
