"Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Big Shift On Civil Liberties vs. Counter-Terrorism "
#12
haikuman-
The various 'wars' like the War on Drugs and the War on Terror have resulted in the loss of many civil rights.

Seizure of property without due process ? Yup. War on drugs. Try traveling with a large amount of cash. It's gonna be gone REAL fast. The number of cases is huge.

Unreasonable search and seizure ? New York's "Stop and Frisk", where if you're brown, you're going down !

Judicial oversight over surveillance ?
FBI's GPS tracker without any judge being involved. Lots 'o cases.
NSA surveiling US citizens. etc. etc. etc.

The sad difference between private companies doing it and governments is that we've typically given private companies permission to do it. And when we don't, they get in trouble. (Google's Camera Cars capturing wifi data as they wardrive the world._)

So, O wise man of the Phillipenes, you may relax and assume your host gummint isn't peeking at you. But inside the US, we know we're being searched, seized, and spied on in ways that King George III would have salivated to have over us damn colonials.
