Are you talking about 'one coat paint' ?
It really depends on the condition (and color) of the wall at the start. 80% of painting is surface prep and taping, etc..
I've used one coat paints quite successfully, but on walls that were already painted a neutral white with a primer and then one or two coats of color (good builder.. cheap builder sprays one coat of off white II and walks away laughing).
If you've got a cheap builder wall, Kilz II is an amazing primer that solves most ills. If you've got a badly stained wall or some weird stuff, Kilz I or Glidden Gripz is awesome. Then you can use the 'one coat paint'. Otherwise, you're gonna have a bad time.
