My wife and I used Benjamin-Moore Regal Select and Benjamin-Moore Aura Bath and Spa paint in our new apartment. Both of these are primer/paint combination products. Aura Bath and Spa was used in each of the bathrooms and in the kitchen. Regal Select was used everywhere else. Neither product could cover the previous mustard yellow paint in a single coat. In some areas two coats didn't do the job. Three coats did it.
I voiced concerned about the issue and he said that depending on the walls (new construction) or a particular dark color, even a coat of primer and one or two coats of either of the above paints wouldn't have done the trick and the brand/type of paint wouldn't make a difference. So, in the future, if my wife and I decide to paint again, I'm going to assume we'll need at least two coats, possibly three. And that's despite painting the apartment white and pale yellow. (It looks awesome!)
